The illegal ivory trade has caused the African elephant to become the target of cruel and greedy poachers. Thousands of wild elephants have been brutally slaughtered. This insidious trade is rampant. Many African nations lack the resources required to protect these beautiful animals. The African elephant is threatened and the long term survival of the species is uncertain.
